Every Child Matters: A Reflection for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

A Kintsugi Woman Blog

On September 30, we pause. We remember. We honour. We listen.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a collective heartbeat, a moment when Canada is called to face its truth with courage, humility, and open hands. It is a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors who carry the weight of memory, and the families and communities forever changed by this history.

In the Kintsugi Woman circle, we often speak of healing, the kind that doesn’t erase the cracks but fills them with gold. This day asks us to hold space for a different kind of healing: one rooted in truth‑telling, accountability, and deep listening.

The video shared today is a reminder that remembrance is an action. It is a choice. It is a responsibility.

Every Child Matters is not a slogan — it is a vow. A vow to honour the lives lost. A vow to uplift Indigenous voices. A vow to learn, unlearn, and relearn. A vow to walk gently, respectfully, and consciously on this land.

As we wear our orange shirts, we do so not as a symbol of performative solidarity, but as a commitment to transformation, personal, communal, and national. We acknowledge the truth of what happened. We honour the resilience of Indigenous peoples. And we choose to be part of a future where healing is possible because truth has been spoken.

Today, let us: - Listen to Survivors’ stories - Support Indigenous‑led organizations - Teach our children the truth - Reflect on our role in reconciliation - Hold space for grief, resilience, and hope

Healing begins with truth. Reconciliation begins with action. And remembrance begins with us.

🧡 Every Child Matters. 🧡 Every Story Matters. 🧡 Every Step Toward Truth Matters.

May we walk this path with humility, compassion, and the golden threads of Kintsugi honouring the broken, uplifting the brave, and weaving a future rooted in justice and love.

Remembering the historical marginalization and exclusion suffered by individuals across different cultural landscapes, we stand together with those searching for equity and empowerment. Together let's create a sense of unity and understanding, remembering the past challenges faced by others worldwide, we promote diversity, equality, inclusivity and acceptance in all aspects of life.
